Bees are quite fussy. They'll go far out of their way to find a particular type of flower, seeking out their favourite nectars and pollens. The nectar they choose has a great effect on the honey produced. And one of the most well-known honeys is made right on our doorstep - Manuka.

A bee's life

The journey begins when a discerning honeybee drinks nectar from the white or pink flowers of the Manuka plant.

Bees can gather nectar for over an hour at a time - there's a reason we call them busy! A bee will often collect up to half its body weight from more than a thousand flowers before returning to the hive. There the sweet nectar is passed from bee to bee and digested into honey, before being sealed away in the wax containers we call a honeycomb.

The Manuka difference

You've probably heard about Manuka honey, but you may not be sure what sets it apart from other honeys. There's nothing special about the bees themselves (apart from their fine sense of taste, perhaps). No, what makes Manuka honey different is where these bees gather their nectar.

Manuka is the Maori name for Leptospermum scoparium, a species of myrtle tree native to Australia and New Zealand. Honey gathered from Manuka flowers is quite dark and viscous, and bears chemical traces of the plant it was harvested from.

You can find Manuka honey in Pentavite Immune Support Daily Kids Powder.
